I have long been engaged in the field of materials design through quantum theory, a research approach in ceramics and inorganic/metallic materials science (metallurgy) that seeks to understand the properties and behavior of materials at the electronic level and to design new materials based on the principles of quantum mechanics. By integrating theoretical calculations with synthesis and experimental characterization, and further applying materials informatics approaches—such as artificial intelligence and data-driven methods—I have worked to discover and enhance the performance of energy and semiconductor materials.
Although I retired from my position as Professor at the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, Kyoto University, in March 2025, I continue to pursue research aimed at contributing to a more sustainable society by drawing on the knowledge and methods I have developed over the years.
